2016 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Mars Hill finished the 2015 season with a disappointing 2-8 record. Last year Mars Hill finished sixth in Class 2A region eight with a 1-5 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs. No team at Mars Hill ever won more games in a season than the two victories last year. The 155 points scored by the Panthers last year were a team record in a single season. The Panthers have never qualified for a playoff spot and would love to break that streak this season. The Panthers have never won a playoff game in the school's history. They would like to break through and pick up that first post season victory in 2016. Mars Hill was inconsistent offensively last year and that needs to pick up if the Panthers want to be competitive. They only averaged 15.5 points a game. The Panthers would prefer to forget the past two seasons as they have finished with a 3-17 record. Mars Hill is a relatively new football program having fielded a team only two seasons. They have managed a record of 3-17 over the past two years. Jared Mills stepped down as the head football coach to accept a job as an assistant coach at Central Florence. His two teams at Mars Hill went 3-17 without reaching the playoffs. Darrell Higgins most recently served as the offensive coordinator and junior high coach at Deshler. He has been with the Deshler program for a total of 22 seasons. Higgins graduated from Coffee in 1988 and played football at East Mississippi Community College before transferring to the University of North Alabama, where he earned a degree in business education. The Mars Hill Panthers will play in Class 2A region eight during the 2016 season. This season, the Panthers will be a long shot for one of the four playoff spots in region eight. The Panthers open the 2016 season on the road against non-region opponent Vina on Friday, August 19 at Red Devils Stadium. Last year the Vina Red Devils finished with an overall record of 5-6 and in fourth place in Class 1A region eight. The Red Devils lost in the first round of the Class 1A playoffs to Berry Fayette by a score of 38-14. Mars Hill and Vina have met a total of 4 times on the football field. The Panthers have a 3-1-0 record against the Red Devils. They last met in with | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
